BOTOX®

Why BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Whenever we use the muscles of our face to express our emotions (happiness, concern, surprise), we develop lines, furrows, and wrinkles in our skin. The muscles beneath the skin repeatedly fold the skin and over time the collagen is broken down perpendicular to the muscle fibers and result in skin damage that appears as a line. These micro-injuries worsen over time and are most noticeable around the eyes, mouth, forehead and especially between the eyebrows. As these lines and wrinkles worsen, we begin to look angry, tired, sad and/or old. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments can not only prevent you from deepening these lines during natural facial movements, they can also help reverse these marks of aging, leaving you looking younger and more refreshed. Laura, owner, and injector at Elle Medical Aesthetics, employs a natural approach to BOTOX administration to create a relaxed, refreshed and youthful look.

What Is BOTOX®?

BOTOX Cosmetic is a highly purified protein injected into the skin to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles due to repeated facial expressions, such as on the forehead. The protein binds in the muscle and prevents the nerves from sending signals to the muscle to contract. The onset of action is usually a few days to two weeks after treatment and the duration of action is typically from three to four months. Not all wrinkles in the face are treatable however, those due to excessive contraction of the muscles associated with facial expressions often are improved after BOTOX administration. BOTOX will not correct lines due to volume

loss or gravitational sagging of the skin- such as the nasolabial folds, also known as smile lines or“the parentheses”, and the marionettes or “puppet lines” around the mouth. These lines are better treated with dermal fillers to restore volume, and occasionally, surgery is necessary for more effective correction.

What Does BOTOX® Cosmetic Correct?

BOTOX Cosmetic is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States and one of our most requested procedures. Safe, quick and effective, BOTOX reduces wrinkles and facial lines for up to three to four months with virtually no downtime and little to no discomfort. Through a series of small injections, BOTOX affords you a refreshed look by smoothing frown lines between the eyebrows, forehead lines, crow’s feet lines around the eyes, and perioral lines. BOTOX can also be used to sculpt the face by selectively relaxing specific facial muscles that position facial structures in an undesirable place. For example, the outer eyebrows (brow lift) and corners of the mouth can be elevated by relaxing the depressor

muscles that pull them down.

Other Uses for BOTOX®

In addition to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, Botox may be useful for treating chronic

headaches, excessive sweating, and jaw pain.

Excessive Underarm Perspiration
Patients who suffer from hyperhidrosis (severe underarm perspiration) that does not respond to conventional over-the-counter treatments may be a candidate for treatment with BOTOX.

Duration of the effect of BOTOX is typically 4 – 6 months.

What Is Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm® is an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid categorized as a dermal filler that may correct signs of aging such as wrinkles, fine lines, thinning lips and volume loss. By adding volume, Juvederm can sculpt the face, “plump up” the lips and restore a youthful shape to the face. hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is highly biocompatible and non-animal-based, Juvederm is a low allergen and no pre-treatment skin testing is needed. Juvéderm is supplied in multiple formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated including Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Juvederm Voluma, Juvederm Vollure and Juvederm Volbella. Results can last from six months to two years, depending on the filler used and the area treated.

Procedure & Recovery Time
The injection itself usually takes approximately 30 minutes.Although anesthesia is not required, your practitioner may use a topical or anesthetic to numb the treatment area. JUVÉDERM Injectable Gel will be injected under your skin to add volume or fill wrinkles and folds. After the injection, your doctor may gently massage the treated areas. There is minimal recovery time with JUVÉDERM. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risk of bruising, temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. Some temporary symptoms such as bruising, redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps may occur but usually clear up on their own within a week. Any swelling at the injection site can be minimized with an ice pack for a brief period.

What Are The Results?

Most clients see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas although results may vary and follow-up treatments are required to maintain results.
